Worst “Fair Play” Goal Ever? Luiz Adriano: Shakhtar vs Nordsjaelland

I’m amazed Luiz Adriano didn’t get killed after doing this today:

This is from the Champions League:  Shaktar is at the top of their group, and Nordsjaelland is at the bottom.  At the time, Nordsjaelland was winning 1-0.   There was a collision off the ball between two players.   The ref stopped play, and play restarts with a drop ball.    They generally don’t contest drop balls in high level soccer:  the sporting thing to do is to give the ball back to the team who deserves it.  In this case, Nordsjaelland had the ball, so Shaktar went to play the uncontested drop-ball back to the Nordsjaelland keeper.

Enter Luiz Adriano, who treated the clear-to-the-keeper like a through-ball, took it, and scored.  1-1.

Shaktar went on to win 5-2.
