Why Won’t Bernanke Be at Jackson Hole?

You may have heard that Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke will be missing this year’s Jackson Hole Symposium, described by Bloomberg as “the central bank’s marquee conference,” due to a “scheduling conflict.”   Bloomberg adds:

“The 59-year-old Bernanke, whose term as head of the central bank expires in January, has been the keynote speaker every year since becoming chairman in 2006. The spokeswoman, who asked not to be identified by name, declined to say whether Bernanke would address the conference by video or whether Vice Chairman Janet Yellen would speak.”

Anyway, the obvious question is:  What could Bernanke’s scheduling conflict possibly be?

I’ll start you off, and then leave it to The Readers to answer in the comments section:

– He has box seats to the Washington Nationals

– Backstage passes to the American Idol tour

– Nephew’s Bar Mitzvah

– Appointment to take his dog to the groomer

– Colonoscopy already scheduled

the floor is open: have at it in the comments.
