Playoff Hockey – Gregory Campbell Breaks Leg And Continues Killing Penalty

Bruins’ center Gregory Campbell broke his leg last night blocking a shot.   Play continued, and he staggered to his feet, grimacing.  He was hobbled over, then staggered to his feet again and attempted to contribute to the penalty kill, shuffling around on one leg.   This is playoff hockey, and the definition of intestinal fortitude.     Listen to the crowd get louder as they realize how much pain he’s in,  and try to carry Campbell through the play:

In the intermission after this period, studio commentator (and former Bruins coach) Mike Milbury said, of Gregory Campbell: “There’s no Italian soccer player in him.”   Soccer is by far the major sport in my life – I love the game, I play the game, I watch the game, and I coach the game.  But I’ve also written prevously about the dark side of the game: diving divas – and how I think it’s a major reason soccer isn’t a bigger hit in the U.S. – and suffice it to say, Mike Milbury is correct.

Gregory Campbell is tough as nails.
