I Flew Too Close To The Sun On Wings of Pastrami

So I threw a brisket on the smoker at 8 am today.   The smoker sits out on our deck, and our bedroom wing windows are 1 floor up.

Mrs. Dynamite came down 15 minutes later to ask me to make sure I close the windows in the future when I turn the smoker on.

I was flummoxed.  Why?

“Because I don’t want our bedroom to smell like BBQ.”

Still flummoxed.   Which is why I wrote this blog post:  it appears this is a fundamental difference between MEN and The Fairer Sex.  I mean, who *wouldn’t* want their bedroom to smell like BBQ?   Well, empirical evidence suggests that the answer to that question is: women.

Seinfeld fanatics should already recognize the title of this post, but my exchange with Mrs. Dynamite reminded me of the classic Seinfeld episode when George tries to achieve the “trifecta” in the bedroom: sex, sports, and food all at the same time.    He’s fooling around with his girlfriend under the covers, with an earbud in his ear listening to the Yankee game, and he sneaks out for a bite of a pastrami sandwhich.  A low-quality version of the clip is here.

“Pastrami is the most sensual of all the salted cured meats.”

The follow up discussion with Jerry is where the classic admission “I flew too close to the sun on wings of pastrami” comes from:

classic.
