Homebrew Batch 46: Inflationary IPA

Today I brewed a 5 gallon extract batch of IPA using whole leaf hops from Hopsdirect.com.  The recipe, which I pulled out of my butt, is as follows:

bring 3.5 gallons of water to a boil, then add:

6.6lbs light liquid malt extract

1 lbs amber dry malt extract

Stir, desperately avoid boil-over, and one you get back to a boil,  add hops:

.3 oz Bravo

.5 oz Calypso

After 50 minutes, add hops:

.3oz Bravo, .4 oz Calypso, .3 oz Belma

After another 5 minutes (55 minutes total) add hops:

.3 oz Bravo, .3 oz. Calypso, .4 oz Belma

After another 5 minutes (60 minutes total) turn off heat, remove, kettle from burner, and add hops:

.3 oz Bravo, .4 oz Calypso, .3 oz Belma.

Chill to 70 degrees, remove hops bag (massive paint strainer bag filled with hops), transfer wort to plastic fermenting bucket, and top up to 5 gallons with filtered water.

Pitch Safale US-05 yeast.

I’m going to give this 2 weeks to ferment, then do some dry-hopping for the last week.

OG came in at 1.058
