Homebrew Batch # 38: Rice Krispy Cream Ale

Today I decided to brew up something light for the summer, and I went with a modified batch of the Cream of 3 Crops Ale which I’ve brewed before.   My local homebrew shop was out of flaked rice – some sort of national dispute or something – but he told me that a buddy of his had luck substituting Rice Krispies.  What’s the worst that could happen?  I’m working on a 2.5 gallon batch:

mill: 4.5lbs 6-row Malt

1lb flaked corn

1 box (.6lbs) Rice Krispies

Mash for 1 hour at 155 degrees.

Sparge at 170 degrees, collect 3 gallons, bring to a boil and add:

0.25oz Crystal hops and

0.25oz Willamette hops

Boil for 60 minutes, cool to 70 degrees, pitch Safale US-05

I will ferment it for 3 weeks in mid-60’s temps in my basement.

OG came in at 1.054
